Education Begins at Home

Education begins at home. As parents, we should begin reading to our children long before they can read the words in a book for themselves. I began reading to my daughter long before she was even born! They say babies hear their mommy's voice before they are born so why not spend time bonding with them through reading to your unborn little one? We need to show our children how important reading truly is. Reading is used everyday in our daily activities. We read newspapers or magazines... whether in print or online.  We read road signs, we read recipes, and instructions on how to assemble or operate new toys, tools, appliances, etc. There just isn't a day that passes that we do not need to read something.
It is up to us as parents to have books available to our children. If your child says they do not like reading books, it’s probably because they aren’t being provided books that interest them. Find books about the hobbies or interests your child has. If they find pleasure in animals, surround them with zoo books, non-fiction books about their favorite animals, etc. if your child loves the arts, provide them books on music, theater, dance, or art. Maybe they love to discover how things work... provide them books that explain the mechanics of the world around them. The more children read or are read to,the better their literacy scores will be and the brighter their futures become.
How often do you read with your child? How many books do your children have in their home library?
